Romain Beltrão Teule nasceu em Paris, de mãe brasileira e pai francês. Licenciado em Design e Arte pela Escola de Belas Artes de Toulouse e Nantes.
Em 2013, muda-se para Lisboa para tirar o PEPCC (Programa de Estudo, Pesquisa e Criação Coreográfica) do Forum Dança. Apaixona-se por um britânico e aprende a falar inglês. A partir do encontro com Patrícia Portela, Romain passa a assumir a expressão oral e as línguas como lugar de pesquisa e cria a peça “Elisabeth”, performance em francês, português e inglês.
Em 2016, com o objetivo de mergulhar numa língua desconhecida, passa um tempo no Japão e recolhe uma coleção de sons com a qual cria a peça “Légende”, uma conferência que trata da pesquisa ficcional sobre a língua dos pássaros. “Légende” é apresentada no “Be Festival 2017”, em Birmingham, e participa na difusão “Best of Be Festival” no Reino Unido e em Espanha, entre 2018 e 2019.
Romain escreve também performances em duo. “A vertigem”, com Lucie Lintanf e “Previsão do Tempo”, com Daniel Pizamiglio.
Born in Paris, of a Brazilian mother and a French father, he has spoken Portuguese and French since childhood. Romain graduated in design and art from the Fine Arts schools of Toulouse and Nantes.
In 2013 he moved to Lisbon and enrolled in PEPCC, at Forum Dança. He fell in love with a British man and learned to speak English. From his meeting with Patrícia Portela, Romain took an oral expression and languages as a field of research and created the piece Elisabeth, a performance in French, Portuguese and English.
In 2016, eager to dive into an unknown language, he spent some time in Japan and gathered a collection of sounds with which he created the piece Légende, a lecture that deals with fictional research on the language of birds. Légende was presented at the “Be Festival 2017” in Birmingham and was part of the broadcast “Best of Be Festival” in the UK and in Spain between 2018 and 2019.
Romain has also written duo performances: Le Vertige with Lucie Lintanf and Estimated time with Daniel Pizamiglio.
Trabalho de maneira consciente sobre linguagem e discurso, a maneira como se constroem e os seus limites. As línguas humanas que falo (português, francês e inglês) são materiais aos quais recorro. Em função do projeto, cada língua pode ser usada na sua própria esfera, ou na sua relação com outras linguagens. De forma paradoxal, estas inquietações abriram na minha pesquisa um interesse sobre o que as línguas não podem expressar, e sobre as linguagens que não domino ou não percebo. Não me refiro unicamente às “línguas humanas que não falo”, mas também às linguagens na sua compreensão lata, como a linguagem das células ou a linguagem da paisagem, por exemplo. Uma pergunta chave para mim poderia ser “o que existe entre essas linguagens?”
Doubler constrói-se como um laboratório de tradução e de interpretação, uma performance-palestra durante a qual convido o público a seguir as minhas questões, experiências e divagações.
I work in a conscious way about languages and discourse/speech: the way they are constructed and their limits. I consider the human languages I speak (French, English, and Portuguese) as a material and depending on the project, each tongue can be used in its own sphere or in its relation to other languages.
Paradoxically, these concerns have led me to a particular interest in what languages cannot express, and about the languages that I don’t master or understand (in this case languages do not refer just to “human tongues that I do not speak” but to languages in their broader meaning, for example, the languages of flora or the languages of cells). A key question for me is “what is there between all these languages?”
Doubler is a laboratory of translation and interpretation, it's a performance-lecture in which I invite the public to follow my questions, experiences and digressions.
