Estudou dança clássica com Anna Mascolo e integrou o Ballet Gulbenkian (1984 a 1989). Tornou-se um dos nomes centrais da Nova Dança Portuguesa, tendo iniciado a sua carreira coreográfica em 1987 e mostrado o seu trabalho por toda a Europa, Argentina, Uruguai, Brasil, Chile, Canadá, Coreia do Sul, EUA e Singapura.
Desde 2000 dedica-se também ao trabalho de voz, cantando repertório de vários autores e co-criando projetos de música experimental.
Em 1999, a Culturgest organizou uma retrospetiva do seu trabalho até então, intitulada “Mês de Março, Mês de Vera”. Representou Portugal na 26.ª Bienal de São Paulo 2004, com “Comer o coração”, criado em parceria com Rui Chafes. Em 2002, foi-lhe atribuído o Prémio Almada (IPAE/Ministério da Cultura) e em 2009, o Prémio Gulbenkian Arte, pela sua carreira como criadora e intérprete.
Leciona regularmente composição e improvisação, em Portugal e no estrangeiro.
Vera Mantero studied classical dance with Anna Mascolo and danced in the Gulbenkian Ballet between 1984 and 1989. She became one of the central names of the New Portuguese Dance after starting her choreographic career in 1987 and she showed her work throughout Europe, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Chile, Canada, South Korea, the USA and Singapore. Since 2000, she has also dedicated herself to voice work, singing the repertoire of several authors and co-creating experimental music projects. In 1999, Culturgest organized a retrospective of her work until then, entitled “Mês de Março, Mês de Vera”. She represented Portugal at the 26th São Paulo Biennale (2004), with “Comer o Coração”, created in partnership with Rui Chafes. In 2002, she was awarded the Almada Prize (IPAE/Ministry of Culture) and in 2009, the Gulbenkian Art Prize for her career as a creator and interpreter. She regularly teaches composition and improvisation in Portugal and abroad.
