Márcio Canabarro nascido em 1985 no Sul do Brasil, é bailarino e mora em Berlim desde 2011 e é formado em Comunicação Social. Completou uma especialização em performance na SEAD, Academia Experimental de Dança de Salzburgo, na Áustria, e é um praticante certificado de Embody Myoreflex Therapy.
Interessa-lhe saber como a nossa capacidade de cuidar molda os sistemas que habitamos e como isso se manifesta fisicamente nas nossas interações e interfaces. Convivendo com Retinite Pigmentosa, uma doença degenerativa que causa perda de visão periférica e eventual cegueira, Márcio enfrenta desafios onde movimento, compreensão e sensação se cruzam com confiança e conexão, especialmente na dança e em ambientes com pouca luz.
Foi cofundador da CARE WHERE? Zine e CARE - Encontros de Ativismo, Arte e Música Eletrónica com DEEPER F. Coletivo (HU) e A Bela Associação (PT), explorando a construção de comunidade através do afeto imediato. A trajetória artística de Márcio inclui residências notáveis como PACK STUDIES no PACTZollverein (Essen), apoiada pelo Ministério da Cultura e Ciência do Estado da Renânia do Norte-Vestfália, e a residência fundadora de Culture Moves Europe na AADK Espanha, apoiada pela Fundação Europeia Ministério da Cultura e Instituto Goethe.
Entre os seus projetos realça FOOTPRINTS/ISOLATION PROJECT e MOUNTAINEER: STUDIES FOR BOULDERING DARKNESS, apoiados pela residência #takeheart do Fonds Darstellende Künste em cooperação com PACT Zollverein (Essen, DE). Márcio recebeu reconhecimentos incluindo o prémio de Melhor Peça Internacional do Ano da CPH Culture (DK) em 2018 por TROPICAL ESCAPE e uma indicação em 2017 por EYE CANDY. Ele também recebeu o Prémio Laban (HU) em 2016 por TROPICAL ESCAPE.
Márcio Canabarro, born in 1985 in southern Brazil, is a dancer and has lived in Berlin since 2011. He holds a degree in Social Communication. He completed a specialisation in performance at SEAD, the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance in Austria, and is a certified practitioner of Embody Myoreflex Therapy.
He is interested in how our capacity for care shapes the systems we inhabit and how this is physically manifested in our interactions and interfaces. Living with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a degenerative condition that causes peripheral vision loss and eventual blindness, Márcio faces challenges where movement, understanding and sensation intersect with trust and connection, especially in dance and low-light environments.
He co-founded CARE WHERE? Zine and CARE – Encounters of Activism, Art and Electronic Music with DEEPER F. Collective (HU) and A Bela Associação (PT), exploring community-building through immediate affect. Márcio’s artistic trajectory includes notable residencies such as PACK STUDIES at PACT Zollverein (Essen), supported by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, and the founding residency of Culture Moves Europe at AADK Spain, supported by the European Foundation, the Ministry of Culture and the Goethe-Institut.
