performingborders é uma plataforma de investigação curatorial e partilha de conhecimento, que explora as relações entre performance, o espaço digital e as noções e experiências vividas de fronteiras interseccionais. Gerido por Xavier de Sousa, Anahí Saraiva Herrera e Alessandra Cianetti, performingborders tem tecido uma tapeçaria híbrida de experiências interligadas e transfronteiriças através de entrevistas, comissões artísticas, publicações (print e digital), residências, workshops, conversas, eventos, entre outros – todos acessíveis gratuitamente no seu site
A performingborders centra-se no desenvolvimento e colaboração com Artistas Transfronteiriços – profissionais migrantes e da diáspora, pensadores, escritores, organizadores cuja experiência de vida é afetada por barreiras interseccionais (políticas, económicas, jurídicas e/ou geográficas, raciais, de género, capacitistas e classistas). O seu trabalho procura alimentar estas práticas, bem como conceber novos espaços, redes e formas de trabalhar, informados por uma profunda compreensão da injustiça sistémica. O performingborders é uma plataforma onde artistas, métodos e abordagens podem cruzar-se, pensar em conjunto e imaginar novas formas expansivas de se conectarem através das artes vivas e da performance.

Ed Freitas (Brasil/Portugal) é artista visual e transdisciplinar nascido no Nordeste do Brasil e residente em Coimbra. O seu trabalho articula performance, instalação, escultura e artes têxteis para investigar a Presença-Instalativa, conceito que desenvolve no seu doutoramento em Arte Contemporânea na Universidade de Coimbra. Usando fios, mantos e objetos sensoriais como dispositivos de memória e liturgia, constroi poéticas do corpo como arquivo vivo da ancestralidade. Vencedor do World Cultural Council Award (2022), Freitas apresenta obras que tensionam o sensível e o político, com atuação internacional em festivais, residências e exposições no Brasil, Portugal, França, Romênia, Alemanha e EUA. Integra sua prática com curadoria, docência e pensamento crítico no Atelier Nuno Fonseca (Coimbra).

Diana Damian Martin (Uk/Roménia) é escritora, artista e investigadora que trabalha com questões relacionadas com fronteiras, performance, práticas artísticas experimentais, críticas culturais alternativas e trabalho colaborativo. É integrante dos coletivos Something Other, Department of Feminist Conversations, Critical Interruptions, Generative Constraints e é líder do programa de Bacharelato (Hons) em Performance e Artes Contemporâneas na Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.

Xavier de Sousa é performance maker e curador da plataforma de performance digital performingborders. A sua prática artística, na sua essência multidisciplinar, explora relações entre herança pessoal e políticas de identidade, o pessoal e o comunitário, e sistemas sócio-políticos. Através da performance, edição e investigação, explora as nuances entre a experiência ao vivo, o corpo e o arbítrio do público no desenvolvimento de narrativas comuns.
Recentemente tem-se dedicado ao desenvolvimento do projecto Live Art Writers Network, que visa desenvolver novas linguagens e métodos de criação multidimensional, entrelaçando práticas de performance, edição e publicação híbrida. O projeto, na sua essência colectivo e de acompanhamento de artes performativas, cria laços de relação e proximidade entre participantes, coprodução e publicação de comissões de escrita experimental, crítica e reflexiva em diálogo com a performance e live art.
Performances incluem Encruzilhada (Cultura em Expansão, 2024), What Becomes… (METAL, 2024), Slow Cooking (Theatre in the Mill, 2024), Pós- (Teatro do Bairro Alto, 2021), REGNANT (HOME, 2021) POST (Battersea Arts Centre, 2017-2021 tour internacional) e Almost Xav (Southbank Centre, 2015). Formou-se no mestrado de Theatre & Performance, Queen Mary University e colaborou com Dori Nigro, Aura, Tino Sehgal, Rosana Cade, Tim Etchells, Fado Bicha e Puta da Silva, apresentando espetáculos no Teatro do Bairro Alto, Festival Citemor, National Theatre London, Barbican (RU), Onassis Culture Centre (Greece), ITT Gandinagar (India), entre outros.
Thales Luz é um artista brasileiro residente em Coimbra, Portugal. É doutorando em arte contemporânea pela Universidade de Coimbra, Portugal; mestre em artes pela Universidade Federal do Ceará, Brasil (2017); bailarino pelo Curso Técnico em Dança, realizado no Porto Iracema das Artes, Fortaleza, Brasil (2015).
Integrou a residência artística e publicação Encontro em Contratempo, Fortaleza, Brasil (2017), o laboratório de criação em Dança do Porto Iracema das Artes, com a pesquisa Cavalgada Selvagem, Fortaleza, Brasil (2018), o laboratório de prática de performance Crueza ou Inventário de um Erotismo Coletivo, Edição de 2020 do Laboratório de Investigação e Práticas Artísticas (LIPA) - TAGV, Coimbra, Portugal, a residência artística e exposição Habitar-se Coabitar-nos, Coimbra, Portugal (2021) e a formação em práticas de criação artística CORPO|TERRITÓRIO, do Linha de Fuga, Coimbra, Portugal (2023-2024).
A sua prática artística envolve uma implicação ritualística do corpo com questões ancestrais e espirituais, como os trabalhos cénicos Ossuário (2015), Cavalgada Selvagem (2018); e os trabalhos audiovisuais Exumação (2016), Descampado (2017), CAVEIRA (2021), Figueira do Inferno (2021) e Cavalgada Selvagem (2021), apresentados no Brasil, México e Portugal.
performingborders is a curatorial research and knowledge-sharing platform that explores the relationships between performance, the digital space and lived experiences of intersectional borders. Run by Xavier de Sousa, Anahí Saraiva Herrera and Alessandra Cianetti, performingborders has woven a hybrid tapestry of interconnected and cross-border experiences through interviews, artistic commissions, publications (print and digital), residencies, workshops, conversations, events and more – all freely accessible on its website. performingborders focuses on the development and collaboration with Transborder Artists – migrant and diasporic professionals, thinkers, writers and organisers whose lived experience is shaped by intersectional barriers (political, economic, legal, geographic, racial, gendered, ableist or class-based). Its work seeks to nurture these practices, while also designing new spaces, networks and ways of working, informed by a deep understanding of systemic injustice. performingborders is a platform where artists, methods and approaches intersect, think together and imagine expansive new ways of connecting through live art and performance.

Ed Freitas (Brazil/Portugal) is a visual and transdisciplinary artist, born in Northeast Brazil and based in Coimbra. His work articulates performance, installation, sculpture and textile arts to investigate Presença-Instalativa (Installative Presence), a concept developed in his PhD in Contemporary Art at the University of Coimbra. Using threads, mantles and sensory objects as devices of memory and liturgy, he creates poetics of the body as a living archive of ancestry. Winner of the World Cultural Council Award (2022), Freitas presents works that weave together the political and the sensorial, with an international presence in festivals, residencies and exhibitions in Brazil, Portugal, France, Romania, Germany and the USA. Xavier de Sousa (Portugal&UK) is a performance maker and curator of the digital performance platform performingborders. His multidisciplinary artistic practice explores the relationships between personal heritage and identity politics, the personal and the communal, and socio-political systems. Through performance, publishing and research, he investigates the nuances between live experience, the body, and the audience’s agency in the development of shared narratives.More recently, he has been dedicated to developing the Live Art Writers Network project, which seeks to create new languages and multidimensional methods of making, interweaving performance practices with hybrid publishing and editing. At its core, the project is collective and rooted in accompanying live arts practices, fostering relationships and proximity between participants, and co-producing and publishing commissions of experimental, critical and reflective writing in dialogue with performance and live art.

Thales Luz is a Brazilian artist residing in Coimbra, Portugal. He is a PhD candidate in contemporary art at the University of Coimbra, Portugal; he holds a master's degree in arts from the Federal University of Ceará, Brazil (2017); and he trained as a dancer at the Technical Dance Course at Porto Iracema das Artes, Fortaleza, Brazil (2015).
He has participated in the artistic residency and publication Encontro em Contratempo, Fortaleza, Brazil (2017); the creation laboratory in Dance at Porto Iracema das Artes, with the research Cavalgada Selvagem, Fortaleza, Brazil (2018); the performance practice laboratory Crueza or Inventory of a Collective Eroticism, 2020 edition of the Laboratory for Research and Artistic Practices (LIPA) - TAGV, Coimbra, Portugal; the artistic residency and exhibition Habitar-se Coabitar-nos, Coimbra, Portugal (2021); and the training in artistic creation practices CORPO|TERRITÓRIO, from Linha de Fuga, Coimbra, Portugal (2023-2024).
His artistic practice involves a ritualistic implication of the body with ancestral and spiritual issues, as seen in his scenic works Ossuário (2015), Cavalgada Selvagem (2018); and in audiovisual works Exumação (2016), Descampado (2017), CAVEIRA (2021), Figueira do Inferno (2021), and Cavalgada Selvagem (2021), presented in Brazil, Mexico, and Portugal.
