Dia 10 de Outubro, quarta-feira, pelas 18h na Rádio Baixa (Rua EduardoCoelho, 23) haverá uma conversa aberta entre Mário Afonso, artista em residência, e a académica e investigadora Inês Amaral. Num dispositivo simples de participação com algumas regras de etiqueta que ativam a escuta, ambos abordam os seus pontos de vista sobre o significado dos media na nossa sociabilidade e individualidade. Mote da Conversa: Numa época em que todas as áreas da atividade humana estão fortemente dependentes da computação, da inteligência artificial e tudo o que "o mundo à mão", proporcionado pelos smartphones, entre outros, veio permitir, a ação humana chega a um momento histórico em que praticamente deixa de interagir na sociedade e na natureza, como até há relativamente pouco tempo fazia. São cada vez menos as instâncias em que se intervém com a própria mão, enquanto forma primordial de interação com o meio ao redor de si, de intervir com o próprio corpo. O braço, a mão, virtualizaram-se. O corpo fechou-se ao exterior, que, por vezes, se revela como uma ameaça, pois representa, justamente, o lugar de cruzamento que aos poucos tem vindo a perder-se e por isso cada vez mais difícil de pôr em relação. Deste modo, o mundo virtualizado ganha o estatuto de forma de vida.Uma nova existência que prioriza a realidade filtrada, controlável, e das relações à distância.
«Conversas com a Academia» é uma iniciativa de Linha de Fuga que promove um diálogo entre investigações académicas e artísticas, em colaboração com o Observatório Masculinidades do Centro de Estudos Sociais da Universidade de Coimbra.
Mário Afonso é formado em Dance Theatre Performance na EDDC-HKA (European Dance Development Centre/Hogeschool voor de Kunsten – Arnhem), na Holanda, desde 1998 tem vindo a desenvolver um trabalho autoral em Portugal, Espanha, Holanda e Bélgica.Paralelamente ao desenvolvimento do seu trabalho de criação artística Mário Afonso tem participado e realizado workshops, seminários e outros eventos na vasta área do fazer e do pensar, além de estudos académicos. Em 2009 fundou a associação cultural Carta Branca.
Inês Amaral é doutorada emCiências da Comunicação em 2012, pela Universidade do Minho, com financiamento da FCT. Professora Associada do Departamento de Filosofia,Comunicação e Informação da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra. Tem desenvolvido trabalho de investigação sobre sociabilidades na redes sociais digitais, literacia digital, tecnologias e envelhecimento ativo, género e media, consumos mediáticos na era digital.
On October 10th, Wednesday,at 6:00 PM at Rádio Baixa (Eduardo Coelho Street, 23), there will be an open conversation between Mário Afonso, artist in residence, and academic researcher Inês Amaral. In a simple participation setup with some etiquette rules that activate listening, both will discuss their perspectives on the role of media in our sociability and individuality. Conversation Theme: In an era where all areas of human activity are heavily dependent oncomputing, artificial intelligence, and everything "at yourfingertips" provided by smartphones, among other things, human action has reached a historic moment where it practically stops interacting in society and nature, as it did relatively recently. Instances where one intervenes with their own hand, as the primary form of interaction with the surrounding environment, with their own body, are becoming increasingly rare. The arm and the hand have become virtualized. The body has closed itself off from the outside, which sometimes reveals itself as a threat because it represents precisely the intersection that has gradually been lost and is therefore increasingly difficult to relate to. In this way, the virtualized world gains the status of a way of life. A new existence that prioritizes filtered, controllable realityand long-distance relationships.
"Conversations with the Academy" is an initiative by Linha deFuga that promotes a dialogue between academic research and artistic endeavors, in collaboration with the Masculinities Observatory of the Center for Social Studies at the University of Coimbra.
Mário Afonso graduated in Dance Theatre Performance at EDDC-HKA(European Dance Development Centre/Hogeschool voor de Kunsten – Arnhem) in the Netherlands. Since 1998, he has been developing his own work in Portugal, Spain, the Netherlands, and Belgium. In addition to his artistic creations, Mário Afonso has participated in and conducted workshops, seminars, and other events in various areas of creation and thought, along with academic studies. In 2009, he founded the cultural association Carta Branca.
Inês Amaral earned her Ph.D. in Communication Sciences in 2012 from the University of Minho, with funding from FCT. She is an Associate Professor at the Department of Philosophy, Communication, and Information at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra. Her research work has focused on socialities in digital social networks, digital literacy, technologies and active aging, gender and media, and media consumption in the digital era.
