We are delighted to announce that on 14 November, at 4 pm, Miguel Bonneville will present Traça, a short film made in 2016, and O ano que os gafanhotos comeram, the book that won the 4th edition of the VS – Ernesto Sampaio Prize and was published by VS in 2026, at CAPC Sereia, Coimbra.

Miguel Bonneville was one of the artists participating in Linha de Fuga's 2025 Laboratory and the 2026 Contra|o|Tempo Residencies. An artist who defies categorisation, this is an opportunity not to be missed to discover two of the many facets of his artistic practice.

Both works are rooted in a process of displacement and transformation: in Traça, Bonneville draws on the biographies of three historical figures to construct a narrative focusing on their relationships, moments of crisis and points of rupture; in O ano que os gafanhotos comeram, he brings together three voices – that of an original manuscript, that of a narrator who comments on it, and those of the quotations woven throughout – creating a hybrid work situated between writing, reading and commentary.

In Traça, the biographies of Jean Marc Gaspard Itard, Marie Antoinette and Friedrich Nietzsche give rise to three episodes that move away from linear biographical storytelling to focus on moments of devastation in personal relationships. The short film premiered in 2016 at Queer Lisboa – International Queer Film Festival.

O ano que os gafanhotos comeram takes the form of a reading diary, interweaving the original manuscript with the voice of the person reading and commenting on it, alongside the quotations that inform and underpin the text. The book was awarded the VS – Ernesto Sampaio Prize in 2025 and published by VS in 2026.

The presentation in Coimbra thus brings together two works that, through film and writing, question how a story can be retold, displaced and transformed. It is also an opportunity to explore different moments in an artistic practice that spans performance, writing, film and visual arts, working with characters, texts, experiences and materials that are continually reorganised and brought into dialogue.

The event will be attended by Miguel Bonneville and Osvaldo Manuel Silvestre – Director of the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Coimbra.
