Recebemos em residência Mayara Baptista que, depois da sua participação no Laboratório Linha de Fuga 2024, volta a Coimbra com o projeto que desenvolveu durante este laboratório, Mangue Vermelho.
Entre poesia, música e movimento, Mangue Vermelho articula corpo, terra e ancestralidade a partir da ecologia dos manguezais, construindo um território sensorial onde o visível e o invisível se entrelaçam.
O grito da Terra irrompe como urgência: rompe o asfalto, escorre, invade e reivindica a sua própria vida. Nesse gesto, a obra propõe uma reflexão sobre as relações entre humanidade e natureza, evocando o mangue vermelho como símbolo de resistência, fertilidade e sobrevivência em contextos adversos.
Inspirada pela diáspora negra brasileira, a criação parte da corpa de uma mulher negra como arquivo vivo, atravessado por histórias de deslocamento, ancestralidade e pertença. Na sua desobediência, a natureza ecoa a luta por continuidade e liberdade, abrindo perguntas sobre o presente, o território e as formas de permanecer.
Mayara Baptista apresentará este projeto no Festival Volts, promovido pela Central Elétrica do Porto, em Setembro de 2026.
We welcome artist Mayara Baptista in residence, who, after her participation in the Linha de Fuga Laboratory 2024, returns to Coimbra with the project she developed during that laboratory, Mangue Vermelho.
Between poetry, music, and movement, Mangue Vermelho brings together body, land, and ancestry through the ecology of mangroves, constructing a sensory territory where the visible and the invisible intertwine.
The cry of the Earth emerges as urgency: it breaks through asphalt, flows, invades, and claims its own life. In this gesture, the work proposes a reflection on the relationships between humanity and nature, evoking the red mangrove as a symbol of resistance, fertility, and survival in adverse contexts.
Inspired by the Brazilian Black diaspora, the creation starts from the body of a Black woman as a living archive, traversed by histories of displacement, ancestry, and belonging. In its disobedience, nature echoes the struggle for continuity and freedom, opening questions about the present, territory, and ways of staying.
Mayara Baptista will present this project at the Volts Festival, promoted by Central Elétrica in Porto, in September 2026.
