I’m always interested in how performers work; how in reaching toward being seen, heard and felt they create something other than, and alongside themselves. Since 2017 I’ve been holding workshops in which I propose movement scores for participants to experiment with the experience of front, facing and dis/orientation. The performance Dis/orienting Front has evolved alongside these workshops. Historically there has been an anti-theatrical prejudice in Western culture that conflates performance with deception, ritual with dogma and imagination with the less-than-real. Dis/orienting Front attends to the performer’s action of making themselves seen as a poetic crafting, both daily and spectacular, ethical and amorous, full of play and hard at work. The workshop includes movement scores, conversation-practices and writing prompts. Non-professionals are also welcome.
