Na sexta, dia 8 de Março, pelas 19h na Casa do Cinema de Coimbra é possível assistir à estreia nacional do documentário “Woods” da criadora espanhola Marta Blanco. Este documentário analisa profundamente e dá voz ao processo criativo e contexto em que a peça “Woods” de Clarice Lima foi criada, uma oportunidade para destacar como uma obra de arte pode fazer as pessoas pensarem sobre questões importantes desde novas perspectivas.
Marta Blanco foi convidada pela coreógrafa para realizar o documentário sobre o processo de criação de uma peça participativa que trata de questões ambientais e de dinâmicas colectivas. A peça foi estreada na Lituânia, no mesmo momento em que começou a Guerra na Ucrânia.
Neste âmbito, Marta Blanco iniciou a pesquisas sobre os intrincados ecossistemas em jogo e as relações vitais de ajuda mútua entre plantas – fungos que agem nas raízes de árvores maiores, compartilham a sua água e nutrientes enquanto combatem pragas. Existe todo um mundo dessas interconexões – muitas vezes invisíveis aos nossos olhos – que fala claramente de um senso de comunidade.
Inspirada por esta biodiversidade e pela ideia de comunidade, Marta explorou Woods através da lente de uma árvore genealógica, visitando os participantes do espectáculo e as suas famílias em Vilnius. Por meio desses retratos de família, ela quis tornar visível e dar voz, de alguma forma, ao que está escondido sob a superfície e nas suas memórias – trazendo à tona aqueles fungos e raízes que configuram o pertencimento e a troca de um ecossistema, de uma comunidade.
Nestes tempos delicados para países como a Lituânia, que foram repúblicas da antiga União Soviética, o foco nas pessoas como parte de um ecossistema que resiste ao ataque da história repetida foi exposto nessas visitas.
Trabalhando com essas duas ideias, Marta propõe um olhar para aquilo que constantemente esquecemos, que não há separação entre a sociedade humana e a natureza. Nós, humanos, fazemos parte da natureza. Na verdade, somos os superpredadores da natureza e, portanto, também de nós mesmos.

On Friday, March 8th, at 7pm at Casa do Cinema de Coimbra it is possible to watch the national premiere of the documentary “Woods” by Spanish creator Marta Blanco. This documentary deeply analyzes and gives voice to the creative process and context in which Clarice Lima's play “Woods” was created, an opportunity to highlight how a work of art can make people think about important issues from new perspectives.
Marta Blanco was invited by the choreographer to make the documentary about the process of creating a participatory piece that deals with environmental issues and collective dynamics. The play was premiered in Lithuania, at the same time that the War in Ukraine began. In this context, Marta Blanco began researching the intricate ecosystems at play and the vital relationships of mutual help between plants – fungi that act on the roots of larger trees, sharing their water and nutrients while fighting pests. There is a whole world of these interconnections – often invisible to our eyes – that clearly speaks of a sense of community.
Inspired by this biodiversity and the idea of community, Marta explored Woods through the lens of a family tree, visiting the show's participants and their families in Vilnius. Through these family portraits, she wanted to make visible and give voice, in some way, to what is hidden beneath the surface and in her memories – bringing to light those fungi and roots that configure the belonging and exchange of an ecosystem, of a community. In these delicate times for countries like Lithuania, which were republics of the former Soviet Union, the focus on people as part of an ecosystem that resists the onslaught of repeated history was exposed in these visits.
Working with these two ideas, Marta proposes a look at what we constantly forget, that there is no separation between human society and nature. We humans are part of nature. In fact, we are the superpredators of nature and therefore also of ourselves.
